SESJ has been the only provider of the Trinity College London Cert TESOL in Japan since 2006.
The Cert TESOL is designed for those with little or no experience of teaching English and is also ideal for existing teachers of English who do not have a professional certificate.
The Cert TESOL provides the basic skills and knowledge needed to take up a first post as an English language teacher. The program gives an introduction to the theory behind language teaching, an insight into the challenges facing the language learner, and also the role of the teacher.
The qualification is awarded upon passing a course which includes supervised teaching practice and written assignments. It is accredited in the United Kingdom by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority at Level 4 on the UK National Qualifications Framework. The Cert TESOL is the equivalent to the CELTA and is widely respected and recognised by language schools around the world.
The Cert TESOL is conducted full-time during the summer (4 weeks) and also part-time throughout the year which means it is also suitable for participants who wish to continue working while they study for a professional certificate. The course is held in Tokyo and has over one hundred hours of face to face instruction and six hours of supervised teaching practice. The course is open to anyone who is interested.
